The Story
In the tumultuous heart of the 23rd century, a city lay ravaged by war. Buildings stood as hollow, crumbling shells, and the cries of the innocent echoed through the smoke-filled air. At the centre of this destruction was Magnus Drakon, a ruthless warlord whose insatiable hunger for power had turned the streets into rivers of blood. His men called him the reincarnation of Ares, the war god, and his ferocity on the battlefield seemed to justify the claim.
Amidst the ruins, a figure moved with an otherworldly grace. Her name was Selene, and she was often likened to the lunar goddess of ancient myths. Her silver hair cascaded down her back, a shimmering contrast against the backdrop of destruction. Her eyes, radiant with an inner light resembling the moon’s fragment, could unleash a calming glow at will, casting a calming, ethereal glow amidst the turmoil and devastation.
Selene, a woman of contradictions, was both a healer and a destroyer. She wielded the lunar energy, a force that brought about cycles of death and rebirth. Despite her reputation for wisdom and compassion, she could not bear witness to innocent lives being torn apart by the cruel whims of fate, a conflict that tore at her soul. Above all things, she valued the maxim that all things come in time by the laws of nature, and only men inflated by hubris would commit the folly of interfering.
One night, under the full moon’s luminous glow, Selene made her way to Magnus’s fortress. She summoned her lunar energy, displayed her priceless talisman – a milky blue moonstone set in purest white silver – and confronted the guards with a sly smile. She was granted entry, for even the most hardened soldiers could not deny the request of a woman who exuded such a divine presence.
Magnus sat on a makeshift throne, surrounded by his generals. He was a towering figure with a face chiselled from stone, his eyes burning with a cold, relentless fire. Selene stepped forward, her voice unwavering despite the palpable tension.
“Magnus Drakon,” she began, “I come to you not as an enemy but as a plea for mercy. Your war is destroying families and killing women and children. Innocent lives are being lost in your quest for power. I beg you to stop this madness and seek peace.”
Magnus’s eyes narrowed, and a cruel smile twisted his lips. “You think you can come here and sway me with your pretty words, woman? I am a warrior, born to conquer. Peace is for the weak.”
Selene’s heart turned to stone as she heard his dismissive words, but her determination grew. “If you do not heed my logic, then perhaps you’ll respond to the moon’s power, for weakness comes in many forms, sir, including fear of death and defeat, she hissed with a fiery glint. Drakon has caused enough destruction and suffering, and Selene refused to let him continue unchecked. Nothing would stand in her way.
With that, she raised her hands, and the full moon’s light seemed to intensify, bathing the room in a soft, silvery glow. Selene began to chant softly, calling upon the ancient powers passed down through her lineage. The air grew cold, and the shadows in the room seemed to come to life, writhing and twisting as if responding to her call.
Magnus and his generals watched in stunned silence as the moon’s light transformed into a spectral figure, an enormous wolf with eyes like burning coals. It let out a haunting howl, and the ground beneath their feet trembled. The generals cowered in fear, but Magnus stood his ground, though his face had lost its arrogant smile.
“The moon reveals all,” Selene said, her voice echoing unearthly. “It exposes the truth, the hidden fears, and the consequences of one’s actions. You may be powerful, Magnus, but even you cannot escape the judgment of the moon.”
The spectral wolf lunged at Magnus, who instinctively raised his arms to defend himself. But instead of attacking, the wolf passed through him, leaving him gasping and clutching his chest. Visions filled his mind—visions of the destruction he had wrought, the suffering of the innocent, and the ultimate futility of his conquests. He saw his downfall, the betrayal of his allies, and the desolation that would follow his continued aggression.
Magnus fell to his knees when the visions faded, trembling and drenched in sweat. He looked up at Selene, his eyes filled with a newfound fear and understanding. “What… what have you done to me?”
“I have shown you the truth,” Selene replied softly. “Now you must decide whether to continue down this destruction path or seek redemption.”
Magnus bowed his head, the weight of his actions crushing his spirit. “I… I will stop the war. I will seek peace.”
Selene nodded, a serene smile gracing her lips. “Then there is hope for you yet, Magnus Drakon. May the light of the moon guide you to a better future.”
Selene turned and left the fortress, her heart lighter, knowing she had averted further bloodshed. The city would need time to heal, but under the moon’s watchful gaze, peace would finally be within reach.
