“Dear Diary…”

Sylvia’s Diary – October 30th, Samhain Approaches

Mystic Reads fell still tonight, as if the very air paused to listen. The shop, nestled on Old High Street overlooking the harbor, felt disconnected from the world outside. Samhain draws near, and the veil between the worlds thins—tonight, I could feel it stirring.

It started subtly—a bite in the air, colder than usual, like the breath of something unseen creeping through the cracks. The wind, once gentle, turned fierce. It clawed at the door like skeletal fingers, and I knew—something was coming.

Lillian sensed it too. I saw the worry in her eyes, though she tried to brush it off. We’ve both felt this before, but never so close to home. The Heart of Shadows—the very name makes my bones ache. Falmouth’s been tied to that cursed artifact for centuries, and I fear its dark games are stirring again.

Then, the door burst open—crashing against the wall as if thrown by an unseen hand. The candles flickered out, and I knew this wasn’t just the wind. I felt it in my gut. The air thickened, the shadows deepened.

Ethan arrived just after, oblivious to the shift. He was carrying fish samples for the festival, like it was any other night. Poor lad, he doesn’t know what he’s tangled in. He didn’t see the signs, the warning from the wind. But I do.

Lillian and I tried to mask our unease, but Ethan could sense something was off. The door gave him trouble too—he thought it was a fault in the latch. If only that were true. He doesn’t understand the danger. Not yet.

The book fell from the shelf—Cornish Folktales, of all things. It flew as if it had a mind of its own, landing right at his feet. Ethan laughed it off, but I could see the worry creeping in. I told him what I always tell him—legends don’t vanish, and the wind carries more than just air this time of year.

I didn’t tell him the rest, though. I couldn’t. Not yet. But I can feel it in my blood—he’s at the heart of this. The Heart of Shadows has chosen its next piece, and I fear it’s him.

As I sit here tonight, in the quiet of Mystic Reads, I can’t help but wonder what Samhain will bring. I’ve lit a candle for guidance, but the shadows grow longer with each passing hour.

The wind still howls outside, but the silence in the shop is deafening. Something is coming. I only hope we’re ready.

The Atlantic Pearl: A Chilling Tale of Supernatural Intrigue and Dark Academia

In The Atlantic Pearl, the author, DDM, transports readers to the mist-laden streets of Falmouth, where the line between the mundane and the supernatural blurs. Set against Samhain’s approaching night, this atmospheric novel deftly weaves together themes of ancient Celtic mysticism, folklore, and modern-day anxieties.

The story follows Sylvia Moon, a hereditary West Country witch, as she navigates ominous portents tied to the enigmatic Heart of Shadows—an artifact steeped in dark history. With a palpable sense of unease permeating every page, readers are drawn into a world where ancestral legacies clash with contemporary tensions.

DDM skillfully combines Gothic undertones with a modern urgency, offering a suspenseful and character-driven exploration of fate, mystery, and the creeping shadows that threaten to consume those who dare to look too closely.
