Ms A to spill beans about hubby’s lover?

Should Ms A spill the ‘proverbial’ beans regarding her husband’s lover?

No – In the eyes of her husband, both Ms A and the marriage are in a slightly weaker position than that of the lover. Spilling the beans, so to speak, may not only cause him to lose his job (which may happen anyway), but it will be highly disruptive and do nothing to strengthen her marriage.

Situation – Ms A is not pleased with Mr A. He has been seeing Ms C on the side for several years. As we’ve seen from earlier posts, Ms C has a fiery temper, certainly hot enough to get her into trouble. Ms C has the option during 2016-17 to keep her cool and if she can ‘play nice’, she might achieve her objectives, but she hasn’t. Instead she’s chosen to harass Ms A publicly and Ms A wishes to know whether by telling various authorities about the poor behaviour of Ms C, she might permanently sideline Ms C and hence get on with her marriage.

Ms A sideline Ms C

  • Ms A is the querent, hence because Capricorn is rising, she is symbolized by Saturn at 9 Sag, which is not particularly weak or strong. Hence although Ms A is holding all the action cards in this chart (i.e.stellium in  the 8th house, the house representing injuries, probing, investigation, penetration), she is not personally in a great position.
  • Mr A is the partner of Ms A and hence because Cancer is on the 7th house cusp, both he and their marriage, are represented by the Moon in Pisces. Although not particularly weak or strong, the Moon is slightly elevated being in its (mixed) Dorothean Triplicity (water).
  • Ms C, being the love interest of Mr A is represented by his 5th house (or the 11th house of the chart) with Scorpio on the cusp. Hence Ms C is symbolized by Mars in Sagittarius. Ms C is equally neither weak or strong, being neither in fall, exaltation, rulership, triplicity, term, nor face.
  • Interestingly, the last aspect made by the Moon (Mr A and the marriage) is a conjunction with Neptune. Although it is not technically accurate to use modern planets in horary considerations, it does give some indication of the degree of Mr A’s overall illusion and confusion. He is definitely not coming to any of this from a position of strength.
  • The first aspect of the Moon  in this chart was to form a square to Mars suggesting that initial, Mr A was at odds – fed up – with Ms C. But then the next aspect made by the Moon is a square with Saturn, suggesting that Mr A has recently become equally at odds with Ms A and his marriage.
  • Again using the modern planets, there is a hint that at the time this question was asked, Mr A is leaning towards Ms C. This is because she is represented by Scorpio (his 5th house cusp) and Pluto is the modern ruler of Scorpio. The Moon and Pluto are about to make a harmonious sextile.
  •  Ms A is holding all the cards in this chart –  i.e. as noted above, her 8th house is choker-block with potential action; Venus, Mercury, and Jupiter. But such action  will play out as (confrontational) oppositions to the Moon (Mr A). This is not likely to endear him to his wife if in any way he is able to blame her for these difficulties.
  • After the Moon perfects its sextile with Pluto, it goes on to make it’s first opposition – i.e. with Venus. Because Taurus is on the cusp of Mr A’s 10th house (4th house in this chart), Venus represents his job and professional status. Venus in Virgo is in fall, and hence is in damaged, debilitated condition. In other words, Mr A is already not in a strong position vis a vis his job and it is possible that within 3 weeks (or 3 months) = i.e. 3 degrees to perfection of the opposition – he might separate from it regardless.
  • But because Uranus (apologies for using yet another modern planet) is in a very tight quincunx aspect to Mercury (communication), such revelation such as Ms A is considering (i.e. a change of to the status quo can engage action by quincunx) could cause Mr A to separate from his job in a highly disruptive way (Uranus suggesting the disruption). At the very least, such communication as anticipated by Ms A could prove much more disruptive than she might otherwise have thought.
  • The final aspect to be made by the Moon is an opposition to Jupiter, suggesting some hard luck for Mr A (in 11 weeks or 11 months time). Because the  stellium of action,  falls in his 2nd house, money/finances will be the prime area hit. Although much of this will come to pass without action by Ms A, any actions taken by her can only make it all the more disruptive and unpleasant (not to mention with Uranus involved, a bit of a shock). But none of this will do anything to strengthen the marriage  or the position of Ms A – both being represented by Saturn which will make no beneficial aspects to the Moon.

This is the end of the matter.

Mr B – the new friend of Ms D – how does he stack up?!

UnknownSummary – Mr B is a dynamic, sexy, highly romantic, manipulative man who is not keen on facing, much less sharing, his feelings. Refusing to play by ordinary rules, he  always gets what he wants regardless of the consequences. Although disarmingly charming, by nature, Mr is a cautious, controlled man. He is unafraid of taking personal responsibility. If he says that he’ll do something, you can be certain that he will will do it; equally if you fail to live up to his expectations, you’ll not hear the end of it.

Natal Chart Configurations for Mr B (birth time unknown, chart set for noon)

Mr B

Grand Fire Trine (Venus, Neptune, Moon) – here is a guy who will set your heart on fire – not only is he seductively sexy, but also a true romantic. For him, just the feeling of being in love is enough; his world is one of poetic beauty and harmonious spirituality. Empathetic, kind, highly imaginative, Mr B is can be a real pleasure to be around. But when reality creeps in, (as it always does), he’s easily disillusioned. Always remember that however much you do for him, it will never, ever  be enough; he’s an extremely emotionally needy person, who is prone to emotional manipulation.

Moon /Pluto opposition – echoes this theme – and it’s all the worse because Mr B finds it extremely difficult to be honest about his own feelings. Fear of loss and betrayal can be all consuming with this configuration – when his emotional needs are not met, those close to him can expect sulky, manipulative behaviour.

Mercury/Pluto conjunction – Mr B is capable of great depth and focus. He is also a born skeptic. Fascinated with that which is taboo and/or secret, he loves a good mystery  and the darker, more twisted the plot, the better. The problem comes when he remains a mystery not only unto himself, but also to you. Do not try to hide anything from Mr B for if you do, he will find out and quite likely will never trust you again. Equally, understand that Mr B will hide things from you and if you indulge in expressing the slightest whiff of mistrust, it will likely be tossed back in your face with malice.

Mars/ Uranus conjunction in Scorpio – Mr B goes for what he wants and gets it. He’s  head-strong, doesn’t like to take orders, and NOT keen on listening to reason; indeed he probably likes nothing better than to provoke the establishment by purposely breaking their rules. He is intensely ambitious, dynamic, self-willed, and fiercely independent.

Saturn/Sun conjunction in Libra – although charming, Mr B is in actuality quite a somber man. He is cautious and controlled and ambitious – unafraid of responsibility. If he says that he will do something, he will do it as long as it satisfies his sense of duty. Just remember that the high expectations he sets for himself he also sets for others.

The Curious Case of Ms C (continued) & Her Fiery Mars

VenusLeoThings are heating up between Ms C and the certain Mr A (the subject of the prior post) and from what I’ve heard, she probably thinks that she’s winning in regards to her ‘man-eater’ role.

Let’s see what several predictive astrological techniques (birth time unknown, noon chart used) have to say:

Summary – If Ms C is to achieve her objectives during 2016-17, she needs to keep a cool head –learn to negotiate nicely, compromise, suggest win-win strategies. But this is going to be difficult, not the least because at the moment, she’s more prone that usual to be ‘hot-heated’ in order to express her ego desires. Ms C is being called upon to act responsibly during this period and if she’s unable to do so, she’s likely to find herself displaced and lonely; changes in job, home, and/or emotional relationships are indicated.

Firdaria

Firdaria is a classical technique rather like the Dash periods in Hindu astrology. It assigns periods of our lives to various planets in keeping with the Chaldean order of the planets.

Ms CMs C is currently in her Saturn/Mars Firdaria and in her natal chart, her Saturn (28 Gemini 12) is in reasonably good shape – in its own terms, and not damaged. According to the Liber Hermetis, ‘this person is conscious of hidden matters or secrets’ and ‘will work toward their own success, be self-motivated, and be happy.’

So far, so good.

All this success and self-motivation is funneled through her Mars at 16 Aries which, in its sign of ruler ship, is amazingly strong. According to the Liber Hermetis, she not only will she be ‘skilled’ and ‘daring’, but she will ‘complete quickly’ what she undertakes. But because her Mars is in the terms of Mercury, she will be ‘hot-headed’ and her ‘reason is clouded’.

  • SATURN : 2013
    • Saturn/Jupiter – February 10, 2015
    • Saturn/Mars – September 6, 2016
    • Saturn/Sun – April 3, 2018
    • Saturn/Venus – October 29, 2019
    • Saturn/Mercury – May 25, 2021
    • Saturn/Moon – December 20, 2022

Solar Return (2016-17)

Sun

The SR (Solar Return) Sun is the most important planet in the SR chart and shows where Ms C will expend most of her energy during the upcoming year. With SR Sun in a tight square aspect to Mars, Ms C will not only need to balance self-centered ego drives with the needs of others, but also deal with much conflict and anger. If she’s able to do this, she might achieve the objectives as suggested by her Saturn/Mars Firdaria. If she’s not, however, she might find herself squashed between a rock and a hard place.ms C solar return

Her SR Sun is also in tight square aspect to SR Uranus, the planet of ‘all change’. This suggests that while she desires significant change in her life, most likely she won’t get it – or at least not in the way that she wants it. With such an aspect, issues involving freedom vs. restriction are common.

Moon

The SR Moon indicates the emotional focus of Ms C for the upcoming year, and with SR Moon conjunct SR Saturn, suggests significant emotional strain most likely in regards to those restrictions. Ms C is being called upon to act responsibly during this time but this may not always be easy not the least because she may be feeling very lonely, unable to rely on the help of others.

Her SR Moon is also square SR Uranus and this suggests (domestic) disruption. At the very least she can expect a significant break in her daily routine and habits and at worst, a period of separation, if not a complete break, from those with whom she shares strong emotional bonds.

With her SR Moon also square the current Jupiter/Neptune opposition, she might expect to face blockage in the realization of her fondest hopes and dreams – and indeed it is quite possible this will so greatly her emotional balance, that she will need to reassess her approach.

Venus

Because Ms C’s SR Venus is conjunct SR Mercury, she has an excellent opportunity to develop and/or perfect excellent negotiation skills – to develop a soft and winning style not only to express her needs but also getting what she wants. If she can learn the fine art of compromise, she can create win/win situations and this would go far to achieving her goals (SR Venus trine SR Saturn).

Solar Return (2016-17) Happy Birthday Ms D

Here’s a solar return (2016-17) for a friend of mine – Happy birthday Ms D:

  • Sun conjunct Venus in 11th house
  • Moon in 4th house making no aspects
  • Mercury in 11th house in a grand trine with Pluto and Jupiter
  • Saturn in 5th house in T cross with Neptune and Jupiter

ms D

Summary – the focus this year will be on friends how they fit into the fondest hopes and dreams of Ms. D. However, this may not be as easy as it sounds because such friendships will likely come with some ‘sticky’ strings. This in turn is likely to present Ms. D with some ethical issues – such as are we ‘lovers’ or ‘just friends’ – additionally further complications may arise due to changes in domestic routine, whether due to moving house, or home renovations, some disruption in this arena will become a significant emotional focus.

Sun / Venus

The 11th house is associated with hopes and dreams, group interactions, and friendships.

With bright and shining Solar Return (SR) Venus here, Ms. D is more likely to enjoy a fair share of pleasant friendships with people who will happily support her in achieving her goals. But because the 11th house is also associated with moral dilemmas & social expectations, these friendships may come with some (sticky) strings attached.

The SR Sun is all about intellectual focus = so with the SR Sun (the most significant planet in the solar return chart) also here in the 11th house, the indication is that Ms. M will spend a good bit of time and energy dealing with these ethical issues surrounding these (sticky) strings.

Because (1) the 11th is in opposition to the 5th house (love affairs and creative self-expression) and (2) Venus is conjunct the Sun in the 11th, dilemmas may well arise with issues such as – are we ‘just friends’ or ‘lovers’?

Moon

The SR Moon is about emotional focus and in the 4th house, the focus is on house and home. Perhaps Ms. D will be moving house during the year or otherwise changing her residence or domestic situation – there is undoubtedly going to be some domestic-related change or disruption. Because the Moon makes no aspects to other planets, this suggests that Ms. M may be undertaking these alone or that these changes may make her feel as if she’s alone. The good news is that such changes do not appear to be the result of outside interferences hence such decisions are likely based on decisions taken based on their merits to suit the preferences of Ms. M.

Mercury

SR Mercury is about mental condition – i.e. what Ms. D will be primarily thinking about. Again because SR Mercury is in the 11th house, her mental focus will likely be both on hopes and dreams and how they relate to those friends who come with (sticky) strings. That SR Mercury is caught up in a grand trine with Jupiter and Pluto, suggests those hopes and dreams may well  have significant psychological impact – in the sense that unconscious motivations come to the front and are more clear. There is also a possibility of verbal power plays – knowledge is power – who knows what it is that you need to know?!

Saturn

SR Saturn is caught up with Jupiter/Neptune in hard aspect. According to Liz Greene, both these rulers of Pisces (Jupiter & Neptune) have a taste for the boundless – together they are the visionary; they are also hallmarks of the the foolhardy dreamer. Potentially misplaced optimism, pie-in the sky hopes and dreams, miscalculations, and poor decisions are all possibilities – secrecy and perhaps downright deception may also play a part here. ‘Buyer beware’ comes to mind – if it’s too good to be true, it probably is.

SR Saturn symbolizes the reality of any given situation and emphasizes how we really are ultimately responsible for our lives. SR Saturn is in the 5th house of love affairs and creative self-expression and suggests circumstances making it difficult to express yourself naturally as you have in the past. Relationships, especially love affairs, can be difficult especially due to limitations imposed by circumstances beyond your control. For example, she may not really fit in with his friends or he may not really relate to her friends.

Because of the influence of Jupiter/Neptune, such a situation might tempt either to pretend to be something other than who she or he really. But with Saturn around, this is probably not going to turn out to be such a good idea.

An Interesting Solar Return Year

Recently, I was asked what to make of a solar return (SR) chart with:

  • Venus conjunct Neptune in the 10th house (opposition to Jupiter in the 4th)
  •  the Moon (2nd house) trine Mars (6th house)
  • Pluto is in the 8th

Remember that a SR chart serves as an astrological map for the next 12 months starting with an individual’s birthday.

Executive Summary

Emotional focus on joint finances. Expect unpleasant power plays. Money/wealth seems to ‘slip away’ causing financial uncertainty; this is probably to do with finances relating to the home. At the end of the day, however, this individual can expect the year to result in a positive life changing experience.

UnknownMoon

Moon/Mars aspects in the SR chart are suggestive of mixed emotions which, because the Moon in the 2nd house, reflects mixed emotional needs regarding finances. The first question to ask is how financially dependent is the person in question upon others? The next question  is how does that make him/her feel? With the Moon in the 2nd SR house, it is clear that finances will play a major role during this individual’s unfolding year and that this will be his/her  emotional focus.  How it will all play out we don’t yet know but, with Pluto in the 8th SR house, we can be sure there will be unpleasant power plays regarding shared finances. Because that Pluto is caught up in the current Jupiter/Pluto trine, however, we can  expect this to be a (beneficial) life changing experience.

Venus

SR Venus can either relate to romantic relationships or finance but with the Moon in the 2nd SR house of finances, the focus here will be on wealth/money. With Neptune around, money seems to slip away perhaps due to unemployment, illness, or even divorce. The by-word with this configuration is financial insecurity. Expect ‘something too good to be true’ regarding finances that will lead to disappointment and disillusionment and because this Venus/Neptune is in the 10th house, it’s all going to play out in a very public sphere.

Jupiter

SR Jupiter in the 4th house indicates the need for peace and security within the home. But because of other configurations in the chart, this year this probably isn’t achieveable. Renovations or other improvements are a possibility either related or unrelated to the need to refinance or pay off a mortgage. In any event, because SR Venus/Neptune (financial insecurity) is in opposition to this Jupiter in the 4th house, finances regarding the home are likely to become an issue. But because Jupiter is in trine to Pluto, in the long run this is likely to somehow benefit this individual.

Composite Moon Conjunct Pluto

The composite chart is created by taking the midpoint between pairs of each of two person’s natal planets (in this case Moon and Pluto) and using them to create a new, third chart. The composite chart is not the same as synastry, which examines how one person impacts the other. Instead the composite chart represents the relationship as a whole giving insight into the dynamics upon which it, as a relationship, functions.Unknown

The composite Moon represents the heart of the relationship, the feeling aspect, the emotional guts and glue. Unlike the composite Sun, which expresses the more conscious purpose of the relationship, the composite Moon operates unconsciously, feeding the relationship with that which it needs to continue. The placement of, and aspects made to, the composite Moon symbolise that which the individuals party to the relationship feel they share in common. Likewise, the composite Moon indicates where, and how, the relationship manifests emotional distress.

Pluto is the planet of death and regeneration. Hence composite Pluto suggests that which will cause the relationship to experience periods of heavy change. In any relationship, composite Pluto is often experienced as power plays and in sexual relationships, it gives special power to, and impact on, the emotions of the involved individuals. Let’s be very clear about this – with composite Pluto these emotions are never one-sided. Both parties experience (and will be forced to react to) the powerful drama enfolding between them. Composite Pluto shows how each of them will be personally transformed by the relationship.

Composite Moon conjunct Pluto is extremely intense. There can be nothing casual about the relationship with this aspect. It is likely to plunge each of the involved individuals into emotional depths which they have never (and may never again) experienced. This may make them  feel (alternatively) deliriously happy and wretched. With Pluto involved, nothing will ever be shallow. This composite aspect often manifests in a codependent relationship generating excessive reliance of one party  upon the other to obtain his/her personal self-esteem and/or identity.

imagesIt will be extremely difficult to walk away from a relationship with Composite Moon conjunct Pluto. At best, there will be an intense and enduring love between the parties. At worst, it will tear them apart. Feelings (on both sides) about this relationship will often run so high that it will difficult to rationally evaluate it. Remember that composite Pluto usually manifests in power plays and with composite Pluto conjunct Moon, these power plays will likely result in attempts to control each other’s feelings.

Advice: Lighten up, take it easy, enjoy each other calmly and quietly once in awhile. Keep plenty of personal space, maintain separate interests, and try extra hard not to always push each other’s emotional buttons.

Making Money through your Part of Fortune – Part I – Case study for Ms X

Egyptian Zodiac Taurus

Continuing my serious study of classical (Medieval) astrology, I now delve into one of the most famous Arabic Parts, the Part of Fortune.

The ancient Greeks and Romans believed that we can’t negotiate directly with the gods (i.e. the planets). Hence we must approach the gods through their Arabic parts (as shown in our natal charts). It’s rather like praying to a statue with the belief this somehow channels you to the spiritual reality of that which such statue represents.

In the mind-set of the ancient Greeks and Romans, the Sun represents Spirit while the Moon represents matter or physical form.

Algebraically put your Sun and Moon together (bring spirit to matter) along with your ascendant (or ASC = degree on the horizon where the sun rose the day you were born) and this becomes a very personalised pointer to how and where you make money.

______________

With his culture’s eye for trading and capitalism, the Roman Firmicus Maternus gives us a reliable method for looking at your chart in this way:

Therefore observe who is the ruler of the sign and of the degree of the Part of Fortune, that is, in whose terms the Part is; also in what house each ruler is, whether on first or second angles, in favourable or dejected houses, in their exaltation or fall; whether each ruler is in aspect to the Part of Fortune and if they, on the angles, are in aspect to each other.

When you have carefully investigated all this, then observe who is the ruler of the degree of the Moon (in a nocturnal chart) or of the Sun (in a diurnal chart) and see if this ruler is in aspect to the Part of Fortune. If one planet is found to be the ruler of all these degrees and is favourable located in signs in which he rejoices, or in his exaltation, or in his own house, this indicates a lucky chart. ….

But if there is not one ruler of the sign of the Part of Fortune and of its terms and of the terms of the Sun or the Moon, the one which has the greatest power should be the most important in the forecast.

If none of these stars (planets) is favourable located, the native will be oppressed by ill fortune to the end of his life.

The following is the analysis for Ms X who although she has married into significant wealth, wishes to know her potential to generate wealth in her own name.

___________

Reminder of the formula set out by that capitalist Roman, Firmicus Maternus:

__________________

In practice, this works as follows for Ms X (a diurnal chart):

  • Her Part of Fortune is 7 Sagittarius 07 = ASC – Sun by day + Moon. It is in the 7th house (highlighting wealth coming through partnership, in this case by marriage).
  • Jupiter rules Sag (Sagittarius)– so Jupiter rules the sign of her Part of Fortune.
  • The term ruler of 7 Sag 07 is also Jupiter.
  • In the chart of Ms X, Jupiter is at 22 Taurus 50 – spot on conjunct with the ASC (angular in a very big and very good way).
  • Jupiter in Taurus is neither in rulership nor exaltation– but it is very happy & exceedingly powerful in this chart. Not only is in conjunct the ASC (life force) but also in trine to the midheaven or MC.
  • Does Ms X have capacity to generate riches?
  • Absolutely !! (She has already done very well through marriage).
  • According to Bonatti’s Liber Hermetis, Jupiter in Taurus (in sect) ‘brings great riches and happiness linked with glory. The person will be the ruler of villas, estates, buildings.’ (NB – Ms X does have homes in several countries). Not only that but she ‘will receive benefits from women and may have a high social profile because of women.’
  • Is there potential for it to all go wrong?
  • Sadly, yes.
  • The Jupiter of Ms X is in the terms of Saturn. Take heed here – for Bonatti warns that because of this, ‘whatever is gained can be lost.’
  • To determine how much a problem this might pose, we look to the Sun and Moon and their rulers by term. Both the Sun and Moon are cadent (12th and 6th house respectively) which suggests potential to ‘fall from grace’ (at least in regards to wealth). The term rulers of the Sun and Moon (Mars and Mercury respectively) suggest pretty much the same thing (Mars being a malefic and in opposition with Saturn, the other malefic, and Mercury – while not particularly damaged, is out of sect and cadent). Further, we look to the triplicity rulers of her 2nd house (Gemini = Air) – and are pleased to find that in the 3rd and final period of her life, Jupiter (in excellent condition) gives her the ability to generate and hold enough wealth to comfortably get by.
  • Because this is a diurnal chart (she was born after sunrise), we must also look to the Sun and its rulers to determine ability to achieve and hold wealth.
  • The Sun of Ms X is at 27 Pisces 31. Jupiter the ruler by sign of Pisces and we know from our above analysis where that stands.
  • The term ruler of 27 Pisces 31 is Mars which in the chart of Ms X, is at 19 Virgo 15 in the 5th house (succedent). This is not a particularly bad place for Mars nor is it particularly good either. However having said that, Mars does pick up quite a bit of power being is ‘at the bends’ (i.e. in square aspect to the lunar nodes). Unfortunately Mars does not aspect the angles (MC or ASC) nor does it aspect the Part of Fortune.
  • Hence Mars and Jupiter are the indicators of the ability of Ms X to generate (and keep) wealth.
  • Mars is not in the best of conditions – even though it is very powerful (suggesting it powerfully influences in not particularly helpful ways). According to Bonatti, Mars in Virgo (in sect) indicates ‘dealers in arms and evil men of evil manner who pursue evil purposes’. Oh dear. Best not to take that too literally. Also according to Bonatti, with Mars in the terms of Venus ‘this person will see the death of their partner yet twill have many lovers and beautiful daughters.’ Best not to take this too literally either. Bonatti was writing in the 17th century and things were quite different then.
  • Regarding the best career choice for Ms X – we first look to Mercury (because the Moon is applying to Mercury).
  • The Mercury of Ms X is at 15 Aries 24 in the 12th house (cadent). Cadency suggests little or no power in the ‘establishment’ sense – leaving the focus more on a profession where service is key. Cadency also suggests that Ms X is not so much interested in acquiring personal power or gain through her profession. That’s good because the cadency of her Mercury suggests she is not particularly effective at doing so.
  • However Mercury is in its own terms – which suggests that it is amongst friends. According to Bonatti, Mercury in its own terms suggests ‘the person will have rank and share in secret knowledge’. Traditionally Mercury is associated with merchants (buying & selling). In more modern astrology, Mercury is associated with communication of all sorts including writing (the idea of ‘secrets’ is also highlighted by modern astrology through association with the 12th house). Mercury is not connected with the angles (ASC or MC) and only very widely trines the Part of Fortune. This suggests Ms X may not make much money in professions associated with Mercury.
  • Because Mars is ‘at the bends’, it is also a strong significator of profession. Traditionally Mars is linked to the warrior classes. Today it might equate to anything connected arguments/disputes and/or sharp (knife/blade) things – such as being a butcher or surgeon or a judge who resolves disputes in a court of law. The Mars of Ms X is likewise not connected with the angles and again only widely squares the Part of Fortune suggesting she is unlikely to make significant money from these professions.
  • However – good news when we look to her status in regards to profession – Venus (1st triplicity ruler of the 10th house) – and because Venus is exalted in Pisces (and not cadent) and its own triplicity ruler is Jupiter (strong and connected with the angles) Ms X could achieve some fame (if not fortune) in her chosen profession.
  • This is further confirmed by her immensely powerful solar doryphory – or train of attendants – including Venus, Saturn, Mars, Jupiter, Mercury and the Moon. In the chart of Ms X, the Sun has lots of help and support. This is good.
  • In summary Ms X has tremendous potential to accumulate significant wealth (most likely through partnership/marriage) however she equally has the potential to lose it again. This is a real danger. However there is the suggestion that in later life she has the ability to accumulate and hold enough wealth in order to get comfortably by. In regards to profession, careers relating to merchandising, communication, dispute resolution are highlighted and although Ms X is likely to acquire some status and recognition in regards to her career, it is unlikely she will acquire significant wealth from it.ph88

The Makings of a Good Character – Motivation

A good character is as important to good fiction as it is to a good life.

Because no matter how moving or clever or fast-paced the story – if you, dear reader, don’t find my characters both interesting and accessible, you won’t continue to read.

Character = Action = Motivation

Syd Field (The Screenwriter’s Workbook):

Great – it’s all about motivation – but how do you find what that is?

With astrology, that’s easier than it sounds.

When I create a character, I first draw up their natal (birth) chart– that way I can get a deep-down feel for who – and what – they are at their core.  Sure I made up their chart– I’m making them up too.  That doesn’t stop my character from possessing the ‘ring of truth’ that (hopefully) keeps you reading.

maslowmaster4ts

Motivation = that ‘something’ (or bundle of ‘something’s’) that initiates, guides, and maintains goal-oriented behaviour –  that which your character wants, needs, or fears that drives the action.

Astrologically, I believe motivation is primarily symbolised by the placement and connections of three natal planets:

  1. Venus = that which your character ‘wants’ – finds pleasing, stimulating, rewarding, validating (affirms her sense of self worth) = Venusian energy is a very selfish energy as it operates through differentiating between self and another (“I’m prettier than she is…”)
  2.  Moon = that which your character ‘needs’– finds comfortable, nurturing, necessary for continued life = Lunar energy is a very clingy, suffocating energy as it operates through symbiosis and fusion (“I’ll never leave you if you…”)
  3. Saturn = that which your character ‘fears’ – gives him the strength to carry on and establish the boundaries that keep him healthy and whole = Saturnine energy is very uncomfortable as it behaviourally reprograms us through shame and guilt (“You made such a fool of yourself, you won’t do that again soon…”)

Some common motivations associated with the twelve zodiac signs (each manifesting in it’s unique way- which is where ‘character’ really comes in):

  • Challenge = Aries, Capricorn, Scorpio, Cancer and Sagittarius
  • Curiosity = Gemini, Aquarius, Sagittarius, Virgo, and Pisces
  • Competition = Aries and Scorpio
  • Control = Scorpio, Taurus, Cancer, and Leo
  • Recognition/ Security = Capricorn, Taurus, Leo, and Cancer
  • Cooperation/Collaboration = Libra and Aquarius
  • Fantasy/Escape = Pisces
  • Revenge =  Scorpio
  • Reform = Aquarius

For example, Abby (the heroine in my new novel, The Curve of Capricorn) has:

  • Venus in Aquarius
  • Saturn in Libra
  • Moon in Aries

She wants justice (Libra and Aquarius) and forward thinking reform (Aquarius).

She needs challenge and competition (Aries).

But above all, she fears collapsing cultural cornerstones and the loss of not just relationship, but the possibility for true partnership where all the parts work synergistically as a whole (Libra).

And wouldn’t you just know it, it’s precisely that which she fears that Abby’s going to get.

Today and Tomorrow are Nine of Coins Days

With the Sun in Taurus  (security and stability) and the Moon in Capricorn (achievement and wealth), today and tomorrow are Nine of Coins days.

The Nine of Coins is a glorious card – appealing on so many levels.

The woman here depicted, is completely at one with nature, her garden having produced an abundance of luscious purple grapes and shiny gold coins. On her hand, rests a falcon–the wild, progressive energy of the hunt – in control and at her command. At her feet, crawls a tiny snail – the slow, steady progress (snail’s pace) that realised her goals.  In the distance, is her sprawling manor house, secure and well maintained.

Perfection.

So could be wrong with this picture?

Well, the woman does have only her animals for company.

I’ll bet she gets lonely for human contact once and awhile – don’t you?

This is the downside of the Nine of Coins – money divides – and that’s the truth of it.

Faces Within Faces – Revealing the Secrets of Your 5th House

Conflict exists between the face you believe that you present to the world and that which you actually do.  If you don’t wish to take yourself at ‘face value’, then dig deeper.

Astrology offers a way to do just that.   Like artists, astrologers seek to capture the essence of their subject – that unique signature style that sets one apart in the sea of humanity.

The best place to start is with the 5th house.  It’s here that you find your potentiality for self-expression.  Keep in mind however, that you could choose to use this energy to camouflage your real Self.

The 5th house is a place of enormous complexity.  It symbolises not only that in which you take pleasure (Venus ‘delights’ here), but also it’s home to your heart chakra.  The 5th house channels your life’s vital energy.   It also symbolises your ability to give and receive without strings.

If your 5th house energy is inhibited or blocked, you’re unable to fulfil your promise.  In this case, the ruler of your 5th house (and any planets residing there) provides clues.  Societal attitudes toward self-expression are also synthesized in the 5th house.

I have Scorpio on my 5th house cusp.  This makes Pluto (in my 2nd house in Leo) and Mars (in Virgo conjunct Venus in the 3rd) the co-rulers of the face I present to others.  As Scorpio is renouned for being guarded and suspicious, it’s little surprise that, for my own protection, I hide myself away.  Perhaps early on I learned that expression of the ‘real me’ was dangerous?  I realise that under my easy Libran smile, my teeth are always clenched.  Clearly something intense is going on under the surface.  Maybe it’s the ever-present survival concerns (Pluto in Leo in 2nd house) especially in regard to financial security?  Or maybe I’m mistrustful of life in general?

People have told me that I have a piercing gaze.  I hold eye contact with them longer than is comfortable.  What am I looking for?  My Mars in Virgo squares my Moon.  This suggests my playful Gemini Moon is seeking a way to relax and let ‘go’.

Can others see this in my face?  Can I?
